IDEA BEHIND THE ART

My two posters called “Courage” and “Bravery” tell the story of my strong nation - its sacrifices and losses, strengths and weaknesses, vices and virtues. I am proud of my descent, proud to be from a place that has suffered so much destruction but managed to rise up from the ashes. I can’t say that we are stronger, as our nation suffers cultural and political oppression to this day. However, I can confidently state that my people have stayed loyal to their culture and upheld the morals that define who they are.

My goal in creating these posters was to illustrate the Chechen spirit. I wanted to show that not only men fought in the Chechen wars, but women and young boys. Every single person took it as their duty to protect their homes, families and their own dignity from the attackers. This entire project I dedicated to educating people on the history of my small, but mighty republic. I hope that the person reading this has found out something new for himself, and maybe even become inspired to explore more into the subject.

The black ink patterns in my art work are meandering, swirling, wrapping themselves around the subjects like a snake around its prey. The black symbolizes everything dark that a war is – it is cruel, it is gruesome, it is indiscriminate. The black is everything we bury deep inside of ourselves, the monsters we let out in situations where we feel afraid, when we are faced with danger. It is bursting out into the open, staining our white, spotless existence and leaving a dark trail in its path.

The red is danger. It is anger, it is fury, it is rage. It paints the daisies on her dress, it stains her innocence. But red for me is also power – it is life, a fight FOR life. Even though it pains me to see how much my people endured, I want to tell them that they didn’t suffer in vain – we, the future generations, will remember their names and keep in mind that the ground we now walk on was once stained with their blood.

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

I chose the Doodle art poster design as my final piece. I chose this because I had so much fun creating this and am proud of what I’ve created.

My thought behind it was to emulate the artist Blake Stevenson. I find his doodle style visually interesting. I wanted to emulate this in my own work to give it a “cute” look along with being interesting. I wanted to see if I could make my skellies doodle idea into something that could be used in a poster.

The steps in creating this was to take the finished doodle art and turn this into a poster. I took the finished doodle art and put this into Illustrator. I then added details from the poster template and moved these around to create an interesting design.

My biggest challenge was to create a pattern that repeated without the same objects being next to each other to keep the design balanced. I also found working with unfamiliar media challenging.

I learned a lot about Illustrator and Photoshop whilst producing this piece. I feel I know more about the programs than I did at the start of this project.

I like my finished piece. I feel it has a good finish and I like the style of it. I would like to produce more art in this style so I can develop the technique and make these doodles more complex.

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

This is a digital representation, I made on ADOBE Illustrator, I started by adding couple of my primary photos I took around the garden close to my home and resized them collaging them, I chose two different designs: on the left is the one with a more blueish and sky illustration as the background. Underneath this is the one with more greenish illustration with photos of trees, I chose these pictures because I have  always been obsessed with the blues of the sky and the greens in nature .

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

I took my inspiration from Virgil Abloh he is a fashion and clothing designer, known for his designs in his clothing company called 'Off-White'. The designs take inspiration from constructive symbols and signs, and also has some renaissance paintings on the back and sometimes front. Also Supreme is a high-end clothing company mainly worn by skaters in America, but anyone can wear them. The logo is mainly quite simplistic with a red rectangle and the word 'Supreme' inside the rectangle. I quite like these designs even though they are quite simplistic, they look nice. I photographed the bust of a statues, once I found ones I liked and started to edit them. I removed the background from the image so that I was just left with the image of the head bust of the statue, I then created a black background and put the head bust on to the black background, after this I wanted to make it have a glitched effect  and edited the filter slightly too give it appropriate colours and positioning, once I had done this I then created a static sticker, and applied it  over the statues eyes. After this I used the type tool and wrote ''See what you believe'' to the sides of the head and I also did one where the text is going all around the head, I think I prefer the first one more though. I then typed it out again and changed the opacity of the text and put it underneath the original text and positioned it appropriately to give it a shadowed effect. After I had created the image I found a template online of a black hoodie and put these designs onto the back of it to see what the look like. I like how they look a lot, I think I like the first one the most.

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

When producing this poster I wanted to demonstrate the versatility, the many sides, the many faces of this culture. Through my own life experience I have encountered many different representatives of gay culture. these people can seem crazy, carefree - you would think that all they know is having fun, dressing up. However, their background stories are far from fun. Many people of the LGBTQIA+ community have suffered discrimination, oppression, violence towards them. They have been raised in such conditions that wouldn’t allow them to express who they are. now they have found their meaning in life, they have found their freedom - and they thrive in it. I wanted to create this poster superhero-style because to me, these people are heroes. They have fought their battles and came out of them stronger than ever, and I intended to show that. These are the many faces of my culture - I have exaggerated their appearances and made them almost caricature like to fit the comic book style. These are the stereotypical gay personas that I united into one team to show the diversity inside this community.

These are various illustrations of demons in a cartoon style  in flat colours for  t-shirt designs. The colours are flat with a lack of shading the illustration only highlights, the different tone of red  makes red skin of the demons standout  blend in with out the colour  I used adobe illustrator for the outline and photoshop for the colours and the highlights.

I'm inspired to work in this style because of the colours used and style. I think it's unique as people commonly betray demons as soulless creatures and with lack of emotions.

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

This is inspired by all the artists i covered during my FMP.

Firstly, I took a picture of Robin Williams and put him on the canvas  I them made the image black and white and made a new version of it and went the the setting of it and removed the R From RGB then done it again to another copy and removed R And the G to create the colours then i moved them around a bit and used the select tool dragged and pressed Ctrl and use the arrow keys to move it around to create the glitch effect. When I did this I used some text to write “The mind” and i done that using blue and purple text then i merged them as one layer and used the liquify tool to make it look that way it does once that was done i used purple, blue and green and used the brush tool and drew lines and when what was done i used the liquify tool to make it like swirling paint and changed the opacity down to give it the effect and that is how i created my final piece for my FMP

ELISABETH LAWRENCE

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

This is my pencil experiment, it is of my akita, with the sunrise. It shows a dog, with his head up, with a glowing outline from backlighting.

I chose to do pencil as it is a medium I have worked in many times, however have never attempted to use different techniques in.

For this drawing I used an overlaying diagonal stroke technique, which is essentially crosshatching, however much lighter, and smoothed out. I chose to do this technique as I believed the smoothness, and the underlying strokes would create realistic looking fur.

The form is very shapely, you can see the sharp outline of the dog, showing all planes of the face, making the drawing look as 3D, and as realistic as possible. The pencil strokes are very thin, and almost non-existent due to blending, however the strokes visible give the fur direction.

The mood of this image is very focused, due to lack of colour you can only pick up emotion from the face, and lighting. You can clearly tell the dog is focused, with perked ears, and staring into the distance, out of frame, like he's hunting an animal. One of the things an akita will never lose through breeding, and generations, is its prey drive. They are very well known for killing smaller animals, being cats, mice or rodents. This is one of the aspects that made Akita's one of the best breeds for dog fighting back in the day.

My thoughts on this piece are that it's my best pencil drawing yet, and I'll be using this technique in the future, the shape of the drawing is satisfying and pleasing to look at. It also a very nice composition, starting from the right side and finishing halfway through the left, with the eye the main-focus in the centre.

To improve this drawing I'd do it on a larger scale, on a less texture piece of paper. Whilst the thicker, textured paper was favourable I think it became too textured after blending. I would also like to curve the tip of the left ear a lot more, as it looks rather unnatural.

HARRY DURBAND

IDEA BEHIND THE ART

I chose these particular designs because I didn't want it to be too colourful or mature for kids to  understand. This design was inspired by the creator Thrasher, as he uses colours that appeal to different genders and age to be more appealing to lots of different customers. It is also simplistic in design to reinforce the diversity.
